David Campos
Artistic Director
and choreographer

Born in Barcelona, David Campos started in the dance as a student of the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona. Two years later, he decided to leave for Paris to perfect his classical dance technique to be a scholar of the Ballet School of Solange Golovine ( ex-prima ballerina of the Ballet Marquis de Cuevas).

At 18 years, he was rightaway taken as soloist in the Städtische Bühne Hagen  (Germany) and later on as soloist of the Royal Ballet of Flanders (Belgium), the most important company of the country, performing in the whole of Europe and the United States; also as invited artist, in Europe and Asia, dancing a diversity of roles from different prestigious choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Nils Christe, and Valery Panov.

In 1987, he returned to Barcelona, and alongside his wife Irene Sabas, also soloist in the Royal Ballet of Flanders, founded his own school (Escola Ballet Classic David Campos) that specializes in classical ballet. Also an excellent professor and pedagogue, he has granted classes in several dance conservatories in Spain, and was also invited to grant master classes at the University of the Philippines Masters of Production Course.

He has also been invited to be member of the jury in several Dance Competitions held in France, sponsored by the National Confederation of Classical dancers in France.

Campos´choreographies have been very well-received and acclaimed by national and international critics alike, some of which are: Petrushka, Codex Latinus (Carmina Burana), Velvet Wings (for Ballet Manila, Philippines), Rock Requiem, Inquietuds, Themes of Vivaldi, the Masque of the Red Death( a complete ballet based on Edgar Allan Poe´s famous story,  in musical collaboration with the Finnish rock group Apocalyptica). At 2003, the company has also premiered three new Campos choreographies: Scubertina, Volveré a Nacér, and his new version of Carmina Burana. And, just recently, Ne Nehledej, a classical ballet piece to contemporary Czech music.

In 1999, he founded his own dance company, Compania de Ballet David Campos, obtaining great success all over Spain, and at several national and international dance festivals. Campos´choreographies stand out for their great originality and innovation, using to the fullest the strong classical base of his dancers (on points for the girls), infusing to the company his unique personal movement style, different from habitual dance styles and pieces much too repetitively witnessed in many dance companies nowadays. With this unquenchable creative streak for the new (themes, styles, ideas) David Campos and his company, now granted residence in Teatro Josep Maria Sagarra (Santa Coloma, Barcelona), continue to grant to its public and its critics unforgettable ballet performances.
